The Tyrannosaurus rex (T. rex) went extinct at the same time as Triceratops, about 66 million years ago during the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event.
A huge asteroid hit Earth near the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Dust blocked the sunlight, so plants died.
Because of this:
(1) Plant-eating dinosaurs lost their food
(2) Meat-eating dinosaurs like T. rex lost their prey
With little food left,T. rex could not survive and it eventually went extinct.
